Leonie Huie

Leonie brings over 20 years’ experience across the education system, with a particular focus on the delivery, quality assurance, and strategic oversight of BTEC and AAQ programmes. Her work is grounded in extensive front-line experience, having taught BTEC Health & Social Care in secondary schools and sixth forms across London.

In recognition of her contribution to education, Leonie was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen’s New Year Honours List 2021 for services to education.

Leonie’s career spans a range of system-level and leadership roles, including:

  • Head of Year and middle leadership positions

  • Mentor for Early Career Teachers (formerly NQT)

  • Mentor for the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL)

She holds a Master’s degree in Teaching & Learning and the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL), equipping her with both practical and strategic insight into school improvement, accountability, and governance.

Leonie has also designed and delivered certified CPD training programmes on governance for the National College, supporting governors and trustees to strengthen oversight, challenge, and strategic decision-making within schools and trusts. Leonie is a long-standing advocate for high-quality vocational education, informed both by professional practice and personal experience as a former BTEC learner.

Leonie Huie

She recognises vocational qualifications as a vital and legitimate pathway within the education system — supporting progression to higher education, apprenticeships (including degree apprenticeships), and skilled employment. Her work focuses on ensuring that vocational routes are:

  • Rigorous and well-governed

  • Clearly understood by leaders and decision-makers

  • Valued within accountability and progression frameworks

Through Huie Consulting, Leonie supports educators and leaders to deliver vocational programmes that equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed beyond post-16 education. Her wider advisory work seeks to bridge the gap between education policy and classroom reality, ensuring that reforms to vocational and post-16 pathways are informed by evidence, practice, and system-level understanding.
