Leonie Huie BEM is a specialist in vocational education and post‑16 pathways, informed by over 20 years’ experience as a teacher and working directly with schools and educators across England.
Alongside leading Huie Consulting, which provides bespoke support for BTEC and AAQ delivery, Leonie contributes practitioner‑led insight to national education policy discussions. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between policy intent and front‑line practice, ensuring that vocational pathways are rigorous, equitable, and clearly understood by decision‑makers.
Leonie believes vocational education should be a first-choice pathway, not a second-choice option.Young people should be able to choose vocational and technical education because it is the right route for their ambitions — not because they have been told it is an alternative to the “more academic” option.
Post-16 reform must therefore do more than change qualifications. It must improve the quality, status, visibility and progression opportunities associated with vocational education.
Leonie's policy interest lies in ensuring that reform works not only on paper, but in classrooms, colleges and workplaces — and ultimately improves outcomes for young people.
